Verdict 2009 – Reflection

J.N. Manokaran

The dust and heat of the elections have settled down.  The Congress has come out successful as the single largest party.  Manmohan Singh got a mandate to give direction to the nation for the next five years.  The victory of Congress led UPA is a great progressive step for India.  The governance of Manmohan Singh is commendable.  Reform in education sectors - beginning higer education centres in backward districts, mid day meals for children in schools, rural health mission, National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Ban on child labour, Right to Information law, tribal rights...were really great contribution to the nation.  Rahul Gandhi's mobilization of youth brought results. School of Leadership, Chandigarh (20-24 April 2009):  A special training for emerging leaders in Northern region from 20-24 April at Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Sector 19 C, Chandigarh. This was organized by Glocal Leaders Network, Trainers of Pastors International Coalition (TOPIC)-India and Logos Faith Foundation.  It was heartening to see one delegate travel over 1300 plus kilometers (24 hours train journey) to attend this training.  There were some from Delhi (6 hours journey), parts of Punjab and Haryana.  Some were mission leaders, pastors and leaders of Non-Government organization.  One Roman Catholic Priest also joined the training.  “I have never seen Scripture from the perspective of management and leadership,”  was the comment of a participant.  “Time management session helped me to make a paradigm shift in my ministry,” was another senior leader’s comment.  “Change management was inspiring,”  commented another delegate.  As a pastor, ‘Conflict management would be a useful tool.”  The Roman Catholic father said, “I am in a time of transmission.  Decision Making session was a great blessing to me.”  Another pastor said, “I neglected my family and now I will be balanced.  Stress management based on Elijah story opened my eyes.”  One delegate said, “Team management from David’s three supermen was fabulous.”  Many felt devotions spoke to their hearts directly.  Rev. Dr. J.N. Manokaran spoke splendidly well.  The training was unique as it was thoroughly bible based, practical and contextual.  The investment in these leaders lives would have ripple effect in the nation.  On the last day certificate was given to all delegates. - Rev.
