Run with Positive Purpose

J.N. Manokaran

Thomas Friedman in his book, “The World Is Flat” writes about a wall hanging which says:

“Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.

It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.

Every morning a lion wakes up.

It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.

It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle.

When the sun comes up, you better start running.”

JNMPP - June 2009

Dear prayer partners,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  Thank you for your prayers, encouragement and your mails that help us to move forward.

Health

I had slight botheration with my right eye; I was really worried about that.  We went to doctor and gave simple treatment and it is alright.  I had to change my specks as the power has changed.

Ministries in Allahabad, Chennai, Cochin, Kottayam,  Bangalore and Kolar Gold Fields

I           India

1. Vienna clash may put caste in global spotlight: Caste fingerprints on the sensational Vienna shootout among Sikhs could result in renewed international pressure for recognition  of caste-based discrimination as a global concern, with many hinting at a revived clamour for treating casteism as racism. The ghost of Durban conference in 2001, where India fought back a determined and coordinated bid by NGOs to recognise casteism as racism, may raise its head again. Only this month, Indian government is said to have rebuffed a fresh offensive from Scandinavian countries underlining their stand on caste-race parity.  The move came in the run-up to two-day review of Durban racism conference last month, taking India by surprise.

Writers’ Vision Workshop 2009: A Report

Twenty two aspiring writers gathered on 20th June with great enthusiasm at Women’s’ Centre, Gurukul.  They were from various organizations and churches including: Campus Crusade for Christ, Caruna Bal vikas, Friends Missionary Prayer Band, teachers, lecturers and Pastors.  Rev. Dr. J.N. Manokaran welcomed the gathering and presented the Biblical basis for involvement in media.  He challenged the gathering to consider Media as prophet in democracy, when there is Christian involvement the Media becomes false prophet.  Writing is not hobby or profession or career but Mission.
Rev. P. Ramanathan of Equip People spoke on assumptions (world view) of people and how it could be understood.  He also challenged the participants to reread Scriptures so that they could construct meaning from their own context.

One retired English professor said, “This workshop was the fruit of prayers of forty years.”  Some responses were:  “I got confidence to write.”  “I was motivated to observe, analyze and interpret.”  “I have decided to reread bible from various perspectives.”  “Understood the category of  thought leaders.”  “I got courage to write fearlessly.”

This is not just one event.  The participants decided to form  e-group and be in touch with one another.  Also meet once in three months and share ideas.  J.N. Manokaran and Ramanathan offered to help writers by giving feedback of their writings.

This was organized by Trainers of Pastors International Coalition (TOPIC), Glocal Leaders Network, Equip People and Chennai Transformation Network.
Reported by: J.N. Manokaran and P. Ramanathan
