National Rural Health Mission – Needed a paradigm shift

The health ministry under Ghulab Nabi Azad has proposed to give financial incentives to lure doctors to work in rural, tribal and hilly areas. Sometimes, the doctors serving in such areas would get double salary. Providing monetary benefits is the only way to enhance the health needs in India?
 
National Rural Health Mission initiated in 2005 has made some progress. But, there is a need for paradigm shift in the thinking and execution of the Mission. There seems to piece meal approach to the whole issue, instead of integrated approach. There is lack of co-ordination between various agencies also.

“Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.

It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.

Every morning a lion wakes up.

It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. 

It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle.

When the sun comes up, you better start running.”

Health

I had slight botheration with my right eye; I was really worried about that.  We went to doctor and gave simple treatment and it is alright.  I had to change my specks as the power has changed.   

Ministries in Allahabad, Chennai, Cochin, Kottayam,  Bangalore and Kolar Gold Fields

God enabled me to be in Allahabad for the Uttar Pradesh Pastors’ Conference from 2-5 June in the city of Allahabad.  Dr. Sam Kamalesan, Dr. R.B. Lall, Rev. Patrick Joshau, Rev. Richard Howell and I were the speakers.  Over 350 pastors and leaders were present and we were able to introduce  ‘Christ and Missional Leaders’ in Hindi.

1. Vienna clash may put caste in global spotlight: Caste fingerprints on the sensational Vienna shootout among Sikhs could result in renewed international pressure for recognition  of caste-based discrimination as a global concern, with many hinting at a revived clamour for treating casteism as racism. The ghost of Durban conference in 2001, where India fought back a determined and coordinated bid by NGOs to recognise casteism as racism, may raise its head again. Only this month, Indian government is said to have rebuffed a fresh offensive from Scandinavian countries underlining their stand on caste-race parity.  The move came in the run-up to two-day review of Durban racism conference last month, taking India by surprise.
